Hey there,

If you've made sure that all your settings are absolutely correct, but you still can't access your GMX account, it might help to completely delete the setting and configure it again, as one of our members mentioned to us. Sometimes, the applications hang up, especially with some mobile devices.

If you are using IMAP, this is no problem at all since the emails will not be lost. You will have to sync your GMX account with the email client, which may take some time, but that's about the only concern you'll have.

But if you use POP3, make sure that the emails are not deleted as well, only the settings.

Sincerely,

Your GMX Team

1. In Mozilla Thunderbird 3, click on Tools > Account Settings

2. Then, click on Account Actions and Add Mail Account...

3. Now, type in the sender name for this account, then enter your complete GMX email address and password. Click on Continue.

4. At this point, Mozilla Thunderbird 3 will try to set up your account automatically. However, please note that these automatic settings are not correct for GMX.COM.

These automatic settings have to be changed in order to work with your GMX.COM account. To do this, click on Manual Setup...

5. Select Server Setting from the list and change the Server Name to pop.gmx.com if you wish to use POP3. (For IMAP settings, scroll down to the end of this guide.)

6. Select Outgoing Server (SMTP) from the menu on the left, then (in the right window) select GMX Freemail and click on Edit

7. In this window, edit Server Name and Connection security as in the image below and click on OK.

8. Finally, select your added server in the list and click on Set Default

----IMAP----

In step 4, you should specify IMAP as the account type. Click on Edit

Now, edit all fields as in the image below and click on Manual Setup...

Next, select Server Setting from the list and change the Server Name to imap.gmx.com, than change Port to 143 and finally change Connection security to STARTTLS .

Continue with the POP guide at step number 6.
