A lot of our members have been inquiring about a messenger tool for GMX. We do offer such a tool but it is currently only available in the german language.

However, you can use your GMX account with any jabber-capable client. We've put together two guides for Miranda, PSI and Pidgin to help you with setting up GMX in these instant messaging applications. You can also use Meebo together with your GMX account. A guide for this is posted at the end of this thread.

Miranda

Click on the Miranda icon and then click on Accounts




Then, click on the plus symbol in the lower left corner.



Enter an account name. This doesn't have to be same as your GMX username. Next, select JABBER as the protocol and click on OK



Now, fill-up the remaining fields as in the screenshot below.

User - your GMX username

Server - gmx.com

Password -your GMX password

Don't forget to tick Use custom connection and port

then enter gmx.com

port 5222

Finally, click on OK




PSI

In the main window, click on General and then on Account Setup.




Now fill in the following fields:

Name- your PSI profile name

Jabber ID - your full GMX email address.

Password - your GMX password

Then, click on the Connection tab



Next, configure all fields as in the screenshot below, and then click on Save




Click accounts then Manage accounts





Pidgin

In the Accounts window, click on Add..



Fill out all fields as in the image below and click on Save



Now you can use your GMX account via Jabber on Pidgin.

You can use your GMX account together with meebo. There are basically two ways to do this - using a meebo account or logging in directly to a jabber service via the meebo site.

1. Creating a meebo account and setting up jabber to use with GMX

Enter your GMX email address and name, then click on Register.



Next, fill out all the other fields and click on Finish



Now you have your meebo account. Next, we have to set up jabber. Click on the Jabber icon and then click on Finish.



Next, enter your GMX email address, your GMX password, click on Add and then on Finish.



If everything was correct, your contact list should appear.





2. Using jabber without meebo registration

On the meebo website, click on the Jabber icon.



Enter your GMX email address, your GMX password and click on Sign On.



Your contact list should appear.
